Catching Up....

Things didn't go as planned in our first ever NCAA appearance. We lost to perennial powerhouse Rutgers with a score of 57-51. Overall our season was one to remember and a school best. We have much to improve on and really have to build on where we left off. Trust me the future is bright. The season is finally over. Do I want it to be over? No, but it is. This finally gives a chance to catch up on some school work and have a short break though. I'm behind in just about every class right now?!?! It’s crazy. Freshman year is just about wrapping up for me its crunch time baby. Right now I can just focus on my studies and work on individual basketball things to get me ready for next year, for I’m sure my role will change and like Spiderman once said “with great powers come even greater responsibilities.”

Putting On My Dancing Shoes!!!!

We are headed to the NCAAW basketball tournament for the first time ever in Virginia Commonwealth women’s basketball history and also marks the first time ever that both of VCU’s basketball teams have went to the big dance in the same year.. With an overall record of 26-6, an rpi of 32 and strength of schedule of 91, we handed in our resume and ended up with an at large bid in the NCAA women’s tournament. Settling in as a ten seed which isn’t shabby at all, for we didn’t even win our regular season conference or the CAA tournament which slipped right out of our hands, we are leaving for Piscataway, N.J. to take on the seventh-seeded Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University with an overall record of 19-12 on Saturday at 2:00pm. Rutgers is a VERY talented team and has a no nonsense coach in Vivian Stringer but I like our chances, and am glad we were invited. Please look out for us in wish us well!

Going Home with The Team!

Today the woman's basketball team is flying out to Atlanta, Georgia. We play Georgia State University Wednesday night which is a BIG game for us. Being in second place we could afford to lose and still hold on to our #2 seed, but whenever we play Georgia State it’s always a dog fight, so we must come prepared and leave with a victory. On Tuesday we are going to have dinner at my house and I’m really excited!!! I can't wait to see all my family and friends and introduce them to my new team. My high school coach is going to be there also, and I can't wait to show him how much I've changed physically, i have some "GUNS" now. Going back to Georgia is something I'm looking forward to. This trip is going bring forth more fond memories and hopefully more team bonding. Our plane is leaving this morning and we won’t be back until Thursday afternoon, see you then and wish us good luck!

"Success is counted sweetest by those who n'er succeed...."

“Success is counted sweetest by those who n’er succeeds,” is a line that I remember from a poem in the 10th grade. Although I can’t recall what the name of the poem was, it was something from high school that stuck in my head. If you think about it, success is actually counted sweetest by those who n’er succeeds. Why do I bring this up? Basically this popped up in my head when I was thinking about my basketball team and how we’ve had such a stellar season thus far. Every year we have a conference tournament, the CAA tournament, composed of 12 teams, James Madison University, The College of William & Mary, Towson University, Drexel University, Hofstra University, Georgia State, George Mason University, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northeastern University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the University of Delaware. For 17 consecutive years Old Dominion University has completely dominated in woman’s basketball. This year it is different and the opportunity is wide open for just about any team to come home with the 2009 CAA title. Tied at first place with Drexel, and with an impressive 23-4 record, we are in a great position to win the CAA tournament for the first time in VCU woman’s basketball history. Trust me if we were to win the CAA tournament it would be oh so sweet.

Baby-faced boy Alfie Patten is father at 13?!?!

Alfie Patten a baby-faced 13 year old is demanding DNA test to confirm that he is indeed the father of Maisie Roxanne.
Alfie Patten, who was only 12 when the baby was conceived with his girlfriend, Chantelle Steadman, 15, was first pictured on the front of Friday's tabloid Sun newspaper with his daughter, Maisie Roxanne, after her birth Monday.

He told the newspaper that he thought "it would be good to have a baby."

"I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10. When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried about how people would react. I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.

Hollingsworth joins the elite 1,000-1,000 club

Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake, Va.) has never been one to be concerned about the stat sheet.

Therefore, the bigger deal to the frontcourt star was not that she became the first player in Virginia Commonwealth University women’s basketball history, but the fact that the Rams were able to grind out a tough 70-63 defensive battle over the Fightin’ Blue Hens of the University of Delaware on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association action.

”Any time a player scores 1,000 and gets 1,000 rebounds in a career it’s a very significant accomplishment, there aren’t many players that are able to do that,” Head Coach Beth Cunningham said. “She has just meant so much to the program over the years and we’ve been able to bring in a lot of talented players to surround her over the years and make this program what it is today.”

Hollingsworth finished the day with eight rebounds to give her 1,006 for her career to go along with her 1,444 points. She is first women’s basketball player to join that club and only the third Ram ever to do it along with Kendrick Warren and Lorenza Watson on the men’s side.

Chris Brown Trouble????

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The woman allegedly assaulted by singer Chris Brown in Hollywood early Sunday was his girlfriend, singer Rihanna, according to sources close to the couple.

While Los Angeles Police have a policy against identifying alleged domestic violence victims, two people who know both Brown and Rihanna confirmed she was the woman police said had "suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."

Brown, 19, turned himself in to police Sunday night after police said they were looking for him. He was arrested on a felony charge, released on a $50,000 bond and given a March 5 court date.

"Detectives investigating the alleged domestic violence felony battery booked him for criminal threats," a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department said. "At the time the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, additional charges may be filed."

Brown, nominated for two Grammy Awards, was scheduled to perform at the show.

His girlfriend, singer Rihanna, abruptly canceled her planned Grammys performance, but neither her spokesman nor the show organizers gave a reason.

"Rihanna is well," her spokesman said in a written statement. "Thank you for concern and support."
